My patient report on my laser eye and dental treatment in Istanbul – report from Monday, December 21, 2009

I’d been toying with the idea of getting laser eye surgery for a while, but I was undecided because I knew how much it would cost in Switzerland. I stumbled across www.swisslasik.ch online, and after some consideration, I decided to contact Mr. Serdar Karaagaclizu. The support I received by phone and email was excellent. After deciding to go to Istanbul, I learned through a friend that two of them had already been there and were very satisfied. This reinforced my decision. So, I flew to Istanbul with a good friend. We arrived in the early afternoon, were met at the airport, and taken to the hotel. Once there, we freshened up briefly and then headed straight into the hustle and bustle of the shopping street (5 minutes away). Shopping at 10 PM is really fun… The next day, we were picked up at 11 AM and escorted on foot to the clinic (5 minutes). We received a very friendly welcome. My eyes were examined with various devices. The ophthalmologist ultimately gave the go-ahead for the surgery. During the examination, someone who spoke German was always present; the doctor speaks English. The surgery appointment was at 5:30 PM the same day. After a short wait, I went into the operating room. Contrary to other patients’ reports, I found the surgery quite painful, but bearable. After the surgery, I rested briefly, then went back to the hotel with the eye drops. My eyes were watering and I was quite sensitive to light. I took a painkiller and fell asleep around 7:00 PM. I woke up around midnight, turned on the television, and was able to watch it without glasses, although the light was still slightly blinding. The next day at 11:00 AM, I had a follow-up appointment, and the doctor said everything was fine. We then went to the Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar. I was able to walk around without any discomfort or sunglasses. I only had the feeling that I had something in my eyes, but it was so slight that it wasn’t bothersome. At 5:00 PM, I had a dental appointment at Stomadenta, which was arranged by Swisslasik. The dental treatment was good, the clinic really lovely, and the head dentist speaks good German. I paid about 300 CHF for teeth cleaning and two fillings, including two X-rays. Highly recommended… Just take a taxi to the dental clinic; the ride takes about 45 minutes. The next day, I did a short shopping trip on Französische Strasse. At 1 p.m., we were picked up from the hotel and taken to the airport. I had no problems in the following days either. Two days later, I drove to Italy at night—no glare, no dry eyes, but I think that varies from person to person… I would definitely do it again. It’s best to take someone with you; shopping is more fun with a partner and you won’t make the same mistake I did: I was annoyed that I only stayed three nights. Next time, I would stay at least four or five. The city is wonderful, and if you’re already there, you should combine it with a vacation. The hotel is really okay, except that the wardrobe is quite small. Kind regards, Stefan Stolz
