Experience Report of Dental Treatment in Turkey

I found the company MedicalTravel online as an organiser of dental treatments abroad. However, this company offers much more than just dental treatments. Since it is based in Switzerland, it was of interest to me. They have a great website, and everything is kept simple. What I particularly liked is that you can also communicate via WhatsApp, in addition to phone and email.

I’ve been dealing with cavities since a young age. Back then, there was no floss, and there wasn’t much focus on making sure kids do everything right with their dental care. Amalgam fillings were the logical consequence. However, I want to get rid of them, which is why I decided to replace them with ceramic crowns.

In Switzerland, the costs for dental treatments are very high, and we don’t have dental insurance like in Germany. For each crown, you pay between 1500 and 1800 CHF.

So, I decided to have the treatment done abroad. Hungary or Poland were too unfamiliar to me, but I know Turkey quite well, specifically the southern part as a holiday destination. Since I had already booked a trip there in April, I asked MedicalTravel if they could organise a dentist in Side, Antalya, or Manavgat, including an appointment. It was no problem at all, and I was even able to choose. I decided on Manavgat, as it was the closest to my hotel.

I received a lot of information from MedicalTravel, such as details about the clinic, tourist attractions, directions to the clinic, payment, and treatment dates. The price for the crowns was also fixed and was just a fraction of what they would cost in Switzerland. An interpreter was also provided free of charge.

Upon arriving in Turkey, I received a reminder email. The clinic, Veske Clinic in Manavgat, also reached out to me. The first time, I took a taxi, and the driver safely took me there for 20 euros. Once there, I was greeted by the perfectly German-speaking interpreter. Right on time, I was able to go for the X-ray, which was a panoramic X-ray for a check-up.

Afterwards, I went for a discussion with the dentist about my concerns. He spoke good English, and it would have been fine without the interpreter. He even worked in Basel for a time, as he told me, at the company Straumann. Initially, I only wanted to get 2 zirconia crowns, but seeing how professional everything was, I decided to go for 4 crowns. All of this, including the X-ray, was for a fixed price of 1200 euros.

There was no injection; instead, a gel was applied using a dental tray to numb the teeth. It was much more comfortable than the injections I’m used to.

The teeth to be treated were immediately filed down and filmed for the crowns using a 3D method on the computer. I didn’t feel any pain; the gel worked very well.

Three days later, I was able to have the finished crowns fitted. They were slightly filed and polished.

I was told that I could come back at any time if something wasn’t right.

The treatment was 4 weeks ago, and I haven’t had any problems at all.

The treatment was a complete success!
