Dental crowns
If deep decay has caused significant loss of the tooth crown, or if damage has occurred due to an accident, it is often no longer possible to repair the tooth with a filling. Unlike a filling, which is anchored inside the tooth, a crown covers part or all of the portion of the tooth that protrudes into the mouth, restoring its shape and providing adequate stability; in visible areas, it also offers a nearly natural appearance.
There are various types of dental crowns, depending on their intended purpose. The most commonly used are metal-porcelain crowns or zirconium porcelain crowns. CEREC technology is also used. All share the fact that the “crown workpiece” must be made in a dental laboratory after preparing the tooth and taking an exact impression of the tooth stump and surrounding oral situation. Less common methods shape the crown directly from a ceramic block in the practice. In primary (baby) teeth, prefabricated crowns are sometimes used.
Dental bridges
If there are gaps in the teeth, these should be closed whenever possible to restore full chewing function, achieve an aesthetically pleasing appearance in visible areas, and ensure proper speech function.
Basically, gaps in the teeth can be closed using three methods:
- Using bridges
- Using implants (artificial tooth roots)
- Using removable dentures (prosthetics)
The choice between these options depends, on one hand, on whether a particular method can be applied in the specific case and, on the other hand, on whether financial circumstances allow for one option or the other.
Fixed dental restorations (bridges, implants) are generally more expensive than removable alternatives, but they offer much better biting sensation and comfort. Removable dentures, on the other hand, are usually adaptable if irreparable damage occurs to one of the natural teeth. From a cosmetic standpoint, satisfactory results can be achieved with all methods.
Scientific long-term studies indicate that, under healthy oral conditions, treatment with a bridge is preferable to removable dentures due to its better long-term prognosis.
How much do dental crowns and bridges cost? What are the prices?
The cost of a dental crown per tooth is approximately from 150 € up to 350 € in Turkey.
