An arm lift (upper arm tightening) is a surgical procedure to tighten and improve the contour of the upper arms. It is a purely cosmetic procedure performed by an experienced surgeon. Reasons for an arm lift include unsightly excess skin that appears loose and wrinkled, particularly on the inner upper arms, especially when the arms are raised at a 90° angle. This imperfection can be a source of psychological distress for patients and is caused by factors including:
- Natural aging process with sagging of the skin
- Congenital weakness of the connective tissue
- Obesity (adiposity)
- Severe weight loss
An upper arm lift is used when liposuction (fat removal) alone would no longer achieve the desired result due to sagging skin.
Your arm and leg lifts will be performed carefully in Turkey.
Before the operation
Since this is a purely cosmetic procedure, the patient must be fully informed about potential complications, side effects, and consequences. The surgery leaves longer scars, the presence of which should be weighed against the benefits of the upper arm lift.
Procedure of the operation
Among other specialized techniques, spindle excision (removing a spindle-shaped area of skin or tissue) is the simplest method for upper arm lifts. Individual anatomical features (body characteristics that vary from person to person and lead to minor variations) may necessitate adjustments to the surgical technique, which depend on the surgeon’s experience.
The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia, but general anesthesia is also available upon request. The incision is typically made in the medial bicipital groove (this is a groove formed by the shape of the biceps muscle and represents a natural line. Later, the scar runs along this line and is less noticeable).
After the excess tissue and skin flaps are removed, the wound is sutured, with the suture in the axilla (armpit) area running in a zigzag pattern rather than a straight line. A bandage is then applied to exert slight compression on the arm.
After the operation
After the operation, your arms will be slightly elevated for the first two days to reduce swelling. A light compression bandage will also help reduce swelling. For the next four weeks, you should avoid any activities that put significant strain on your arms.
Your benefits
An arm lift is a major surgical procedure that can give you a more aesthetically pleasing upper arm contour and thus boost your self-confidence. Especially after significant weight loss, this operation is a worthwhile final step for many patients to improve their well-being.
Thigh lift
A thigh lift is a surgical procedure in aesthetic medicine that aims to improve and restore a naturally beautiful thigh contour. Female patients, in particular, often suffer from fat deposits on the outer thighs, sometimes referred to as saddlebags.
Combined with the often sagging skin on the inner thighs, this presents patients with an appearance that does not meet their cosmetic expectations. The result is frequently reduced self-esteem, which can impact their social life.
The causes for an unsightly thigh contour are varied:
- age-related sagging of the skin and fatty tissue
- genetically determined tissue laxity – e.g., in cases of connective tissue weakness
- Constitutionally, weak thigh muscles
- significant weight loss
These causes usually cannot be combated through physical training or a change in diet, so surgery is the only promising alternative.
Procedure of the operation
The enhancement of the thigh contour is often combined with liposuction (fat removal), which primarily reduces the lateral fat deposits (saddlebags).
The actual thigh lift takes place on the inner thighs. Preoperatively, the surgeon marks the incision lines on the standing patient. The scars later run parallel to the groin area. The removal of excess skin and fat follows a spindle-shaped pattern, adapted to the individual shape of the patient.
The size of the incision depends on the amount of tissue to be removed. Removing the skin and then suturing it puts the thigh tissue under tension and smooths the contour.
The operation takes approximately 2 hours and is performed under general anesthesia; anesthesia of the lower half of the body (spinal tap) is also possible.
After the operation
Regular checks of the often long scars are very important, as wound healing problems can occur. Showering is possible and recommended after about two days to keep the area clean.
The patient should refrain from physical exertion for the first 2 weeks and then slowly begin a progressive training program.
Typically, compression therapy (using a compression garment) is performed to provide stability to the desired thigh contour.
