Experience report AUGE LASER ISTANBUL – Report from Monday, December 22, 2008
Decision-making process:
Through an acquaintance who had the operation in April 2008 and is very satisfied with the result, I was…
became aware of Swisslasik and started to take an interest in it, as I have had a visual impairment since childhood
I have been wearing glasses. My correction for long-sightedness has been stable at +4.0 for years, but wearing glasses restricts me in my daily life.
in many activities considerably, and when the frame no longer fits properly, the glasses press and slip, which is annoying.
really annoying. So in the summer I decided to undergo the preliminary examination. The website does indeed explain everything very clearly.
it states that over 90% of people are suitable for such an operation, so I surely would not be among the few who are not suitable.
10% group, as my correction is nothing unusual and there were no previous illnesses or other problems.
The result at the ophthalmologist was all the more disappointing when he explained to me that my correction was too strong.
for LASIK surgery to be successful. After a few days of pondering, I informed the Swiss contact person.
Mr Karaagacli, who assured me that a thorough assessment would be carried out at the clinic. A few days later, I received confirmation.
Swisslasik has already successfully treated such a correction many times and sees no problem in carrying out this operation.
I registered for the trip to Istanbul on the very same day.
Travel and arrival:
After I had paid the amount for the trip, the necessary documents arrived within just a few days.
documents for the trip, for the stay, and for everything important that you need to know and should be aware of.
After a somewhat restless flight, we arrived in Istanbul and were picked up at the airport by our coordinator. The
hotel, located in the centre of Istanbul yet still quiet, met the expectations of both me and my companion.
Day of the operation:
Around midday, we were picked up from the hotel and taken to the clinic, which was conveniently just around the corner within walking distance.
and easily accessible. All the data was checked once more, and in the end I was informed that an operation would be possible for me.
without any problems. It gives a good feeling when everything is checked again and the operating doctor confirms it.
personally gives their approval.
After the examinations, you have the opportunity to walk around Istanbul for about two hours with your old glasses.
and for the last time look at the menu in one of the many restaurants while wearing your glasses, and choose one of the dishes.
many delicacies to order. For this day, it will also be the last time.
In the evening, you meet again at the clinic. The excitement builds, it is a slightly uneasy feeling, but the staff
radiate calm, which gives a sense of security. The eyes are examined one last time before you then…
enter the preparation room for the operation and get ready for the surgery. After that, everything actually happens quite quickly,
you can feel that the eyes are being worked on, but there is no pain. After about 15 minutes, it is all over. You can then…
leave the operating room. My eyes were very sensitive to light afterwards, and I barely dared to open them. Another
patient, however, came out of the operation and started texting on her phone. All of this, of course, without glasses.
After a follow-up examination confirmed that everything was fine, we were able to leave the clinic. I went directly
to the hotel room to sleep, in order to rest my eyes as much as possible.
The first day without glasses:
In the morning when I woke up, I was quite amazed; the first thing I realised was that I could see the clock clearly.
which is built into the TV, and I could even read it without glasses. I was overjoyed. After breakfast
I then went to the clinic for the first follow-up examination, where I was confirmed to have 100% vision in both eyes combined.
was confirmed.
After the examination, I was really fit to go on an interesting sightseeing tour in Istanbul. Due to the
beautiful weather, the sunglasses I had specifically bought for this trip (without prescription) came into use.
Return journey:
There is actually not much to report here; unfortunately, we had to leave Istanbul far too early, as there was still so much more to see.
Our coordinator picked us up on time and took us to the airport.
The first period at home:
I can now experience a completely new sense of life. The healing process after the operation is progressing, and the clarity of my vision
keeps changing slightly, but that is obviously normal. After about 14 days, I then noticed
that I have some difficulty reading without glasses (presbyopia cannot yet be corrected).
which is why I decided to buy a pair of reading glasses (these are available cheaply at a kiosk).
After about four weeks, I noticed that my vision had slightly worsened, but then it remained stable. My first
Follow-up examination with the ophthalmologist in Switzerland confirmed my feeling. My eyes now have a visual performance of 80%
+70%). But that is still enough to go through life without glasses and corresponds approximately to a spectacle correction
of +1 – +1.25. My ophthalmologist was therefore right that the correction of my eyes was too high. A correction
of +3 dioptres is possible without any problems, but beyond that, success cannot be guaranteed
Nevertheless, I do not regret the operation, perhaps in 2-3 years I will claim the 5-year guarantee and
try to correct the remaining visual impairment
I can recommend the Eyestar clinic in Istanbul with a clear conscience and wish many more unhappy
spectacle wearers enough courage to take this step
My name may be passed on for reference information
Kind regards
