Experience report: My nose surgery in Istanbul – Report from Monday, 30 May 2016
I had been feeling uncomfortable with my nose for quite some time. Eventually, I decided to undergo surgery. From the beginning, I was certain that I wouldn’t have the procedure done in Switzerland or Europe. I made this decision because I felt that European doctors lacked the necessary routine with this kind of procedure. Of course, price also played a role, but I could have had the surgery done at an even lower price in Eastern Europe. However, I probably wouldn’t have been as satisfied with the result as I am now after having the procedure in Turkey.
I then came across Medical Travel online and contacted them directly. Fortunately, they had an “information event” in Switzerland a few days later with the treating doctor from Turkey, Mr. Ferit Demirkan. I persuaded a friend to come along as well to learn about hair transplants. Mr. Demirkan made a very professional and experienced impression. You immediately got the feeling that he truly knows his craft because, for example, when it came to my friend, he didn’t make any empty promises about the result of the hair transplant in advance. Right on the spot, we set a provisional date to give us a few days to think about it. We confirmed the appointment and flew to Turkey about two weeks later.
At the airport, we were warmly welcomed by the Acıbadem Hospital info point until our driver arrived. He then dropped us off at the hotel, and we had one day before the procedure. We made the most of it by exploring Istanbul a bit. The next day, I went to the hospital and was able to wait in my private room, which was very modern and clean, until my pre-consultation with the doctor. After a short while, I met with Prof. Dr. Demirkan, and we discussed how I wanted my nose to be corrected, using a photo simulation. I shared my ideas with the doctor, and he also suggested a few additional improvements. Initially, I only wanted to correct the hump on my nose. However, Dr. Demirkan showed me that it would look better if the tip of my nose were slightly lifted and the sides of the nose were made straighter.
Once the photo simulation was complete, I went back to my room and changed for the surgery. After about 4 hours at the hospital, the procedure began. When I woke up from the general anaesthesia, the entire operation was already finished.
I stayed one more night at the hospital and was treated very kindly and helpfully by the nurses.
The next day, the driver accompanied me back to the hotel. Two days after the surgery, I went back to the hospital to have the nasal packing removed, and five days after the procedure, the stitches were already taken out. A week later, on the day of my return flight, I went back to the doctor, and the cast was removed, with a new one applied to my nose.
On that day, I couldn’t quite grasp the result, as it looked completely new. But when, 11 days after the surgery, the second cast was removed from my nose, I was absolutely overjoyed with the result.
Now, I need to take care of and protect my nose until I can see the final result in a few months. The whole trip was a complete success, and the Orya Hotel was about 300 meters from the hospital, so it was ideal.
