Teeth whitening (bleaching): for a radiant smile
Tooth color varies from person to person depending on the density of the protein layer in the teeth. The most common cause of tooth discoloration today is aging. Other causes include consuming beverages with coloring agents (coffee, tea, cola, etc.), smoking, dental trauma, old dentures, veneers, and amalgam fillings. Long-term use of antibiotics (such as tetracyclines) and excessive fluoride intake can also cause tooth discoloration.
Who and when can bleaching be applied?
If the shade of your teeth is dark (yellow, gray, or brown) or if there are stains on the teeth, the suitability for bleaching is determined after an examination and diagnosis. Teeth whitening is smooth in a healthy mouth and is a safe solution for a whiter, natural-looking smile.
Is bleaching a reliable method?
Yes! According to research, bleaching is highly effective and reliable when performed under a dentist’s supervision. Whitening of up to six shades is possible. It does not cause harmful effects on teeth or gums. Occasionally, teeth may become sensitive to cold or heat, which can be reduced by performing the treatment periodically or pausing the procedure.
How long does bleaching take?
Bleaching usually shows results after the first visit. However, optimal results are typically achieved in the practice after 1–2 sessions.
Can teeth become darker again after bleaching over time?
Your teeth never return to their previous color and always appear whiter compared to before. Sometimes, after a year (duration depends on the patient’s habits and oral care), a touch-up treatment may be needed, which is usually done only once or twice.
