After considering laser eye surgery for quite some time, I was put off by the cost and the change in diopter values. I decided to look into it again.

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, I had a sports injury that required me to have my eyes examined properly. So I talked to my ophthalmologist about it, and he recommended a clinic in Switzerland. When I objected to the cost, he told me that he has many patients who have had this done in Istanbul.

This strengthened my confidence, so I did some research online and came across Swisslasik. My first impression was positive, so I wrote to them. I received a quick reply in good German, which gave me a good feeling.

So I registered and transferred the money. The next day, I already had confirmation that the money had been transferred. When I contacted them directly in Istanbul to ask whether they also perform surgical procedures and only sign with my name, they knew that I had already registered. So this was another positive surprise, because who in Switzerland would go to the trouble of checking that?

So I flew to Turkey with all these positive impressions, but also feeling a little queasy. I was met at the airport and driven to the hotel. The ride was enjoyable and the driver spoke good German. He had a bit of a dark sense of humor, which I thought was pretty cool and helped ease our fears.

The hotel was the Taskim Gölen. Everything was clean here and the breakfast buffet was good too. The only downside was the noise, especially after the Champions League game. There is also construction work going on along this street at the moment, so there is some construction noise, but that has nothing to do with the hotel.

I received a warm welcome at the clinic, and everything was explained to me in German. But the doctor also speaks fluent English. So I felt completely at ease and was really looking forward to the operation. All the more so because the patients from the previous day had come in for their post-operative check-up.

After the operation, I had a very strong burning sensation in my eyes for about 10 minutes, but then it went away after I used the drops. And after 2 hours in the hotel, I was completely fine. Now my -4 and -2.25 diopters have become +0.5 and +0.25 respectively. This measurement was taken the day after the operation. So I became a new person overnight. And it’s a really great feeling to get up and just leave the house without having to rely on visual aids. But after two days, I can say that I can see like an eagle again. I still have a little trouble with one eye, but I hope that will go away, as I’ve been told it will.

In conclusion, I can only say that I would do it again anytime. And if necessary, I’ll just fly there again.
