The sports physicians have experience as both consultants and team physicians for the Turkish national football team and leading football clubs. They have also worked as consultants and team physicians in other sports such as basketball, volleyball, handball, wrestling, rowing, and tennis. The following services are offered by our Sports Medicine team:
- Conducting and evaluating medical examinations of footballers, performing performance tests and, if necessary, referring patients to appropriate specialists for further tests.
- Determination of predisposition to sports injuries through movement analysis in collaboration with applied biomechanics experts. Diagnosis of injuries and illnesses in cooperation and consultation with other specialists.
- Implementation of rehabilitation programs after injuries or illnesses and ensuring a safe return to sport with maximum performance.
- Monitoring the performance of athletes by sports physiologists and coaches, and supporting athletes in achieving their maximum performance.
- Instruction of athletes on the topic of doping and the associated health risks and on anti-doping measures.
- Creation of individual training programs to combat obesity and a sedentary lifestyle.
Sports Physiology
The Department of Sports Physiology primarily serves four different patient and visitor groups: The first group consists of healthy athletes seeking preventive or performance-oriented services such as performance evaluation, movement tests, prescriptions, consultations, etc. The second group comprises amateur or active professional athletes returning to sport after an injury or surgery. The third patient group consists of individuals with a predominantly sedentary lifestyle or those who participate in recreational sports and require diagnostic services and functional capacity tests and assessments for training planning. The fourth group consists of patients suffering from chronic illnesses or conditions such as hypertension, metabolic syndrome, diabetes, or obesity.
Cardiopulmonary medicine
Echocardiography, examinations in the exercise and cardiac rhythm laboratory, and non-invasive tests such as ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, as well as procedures such as angiography, catheterization, cardiac electrophysiology, and ablations, are performed by the Acıbadem Hospitals Group. In particular, Acıbadem offers the following cardiology services to footballers:
- Pre-match examinations and medical consultations before, during and after the season
- Comprehensive medical treatment of known problems
- Assessment of patients with chronic illnesses who would like to participate in sports; risk analysis, training planning and determination of the exercise intensity of such patients by sports medicine physicians and a sports physiologist.
Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine
With 1,000 m² of indoor space and 350 m² of outdoor space, the Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine department is equipped to treat every conceivable type of sports injury or health problem, from diagnosis to the athlete’s return to the field. The Physical and Rehabilitative Medicine team is responsible for the comprehensive medical assessment of all athletes. With its orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine specialists, and physiotherapists, it strives to get athletes back in shape as quickly as possible and help them achieve their best possible medical and physical condition.

Physiotherapy
The physiotherapy team at Acıbadem Sports Clinic is highly experienced in all aspects of sports rehabilitation, with a particular focus on football. They also hold additional qualifications in osteopathy, manual therapy, and sports physiology. The 17 treatment rooms, located in the department’s two main areas, allow for a wide range of physiotherapy treatments. The physiotherapy department is equipped with a variety of rehabilitation and training equipment, including hydro-massage and infinity pools, an anti-gravity treadmill, an isokinetic system, balance assessment and improvement systems, ESWT therapy, and many other options. The FIFA-recommended 36 x 8 m artificial turf pitch and the 40 x 1.65 m running track are used by both footballers and other athletes during their rehabilitation and recovery.
Applied Biomechanics
The Department of Applied Biomechanics uses high-speed cameras and motion analysis systems for the scientific evaluation of running and other athletic movement abilities, patterns, and skills. These systems are used not only with athletes but also with patients suffering from numerous orthopedic and neurological conditions. The results of these analyses can be used to:
- The kinematics and biomechanics of the athlete in question are examined and diagnosed, allowing for more precise treatment plans to be created.
- The athletes are regularly monitored and assessed, which allows athletes at risk of injury to be identified and the necessary preventive measures to be initiated.
- The athletes will be prescribed the necessary exercises and dynamic orthoses based on the data obtained through the analysis. Scientific research and analyses can also be conducted using this data.
- The department has special experience and expertise in assessing walking and running and in the use of corrective materials to correct known problems, such as insoles.
Pain Management
The Pain Management Department supports the treatment of soccer players through continuous nerve blocks, epidural procedures, symptomatic blocks, intradiscal and intervertebral techniques, as well as neuroablative and neuromodulative procedures. The clinic has all the necessary equipment and infrastructure for pain therapy: a treatment room, stimulation devices, a lesion generator, cryotherapy, an ozone generator, and a 24/7 operating room. Both athletes and patients in our Pain Management Department who spend a lot of time sitting typically suffer from neck and back pain due to spinal problems.
Dietetics & Nutrition
The clinic employs a dietician who provides nutritional support to patients and amateur and professional athletes of all ages, sports, and genders. The dietician evaluates patients’ daily diets and provides recommendations when necessary. They advise athletes who need to control their weight and plan ergogenic/nutritional supplement strategies to achieve optimal performance. Consultations include: general nutritional planning; advice on weight loss/gain/maintenance; monitoring and evaluation of body composition, hydration, and electrolyte levels; instruction and planning of optimal nutrition before, during, and after training, competition, and recovery; and guidance on the judicious use of supplements, the dangers of doping, and anti-doping issues.
Psychology
The clinic also employs a psychologist who offers athletes mental support, counseling, and supplementary psychological services, particularly before and after surgeries or to improve the athletic performance of healthy athletes. Patients and visitors include amateur and professional athletes of all ages and sports, and of both genders.
