Before the operation

Before breast augmentation surgery, you should avoid taking aspirin, sleeping pills, and alcohol for approximately seven days. Both aspirin and other painkillers delay blood clotting and can lead to unwanted bleeding.

Smokers should drastically reduce their nicotine consumption four weeks before the procedure to avoid jeopardizing wound healing.

Selection of implants

Implants consist of a silicone shell that protects against injury and provides a natural feel.

Different filling materials are used for the various implants: silicone gel (most commonly used), hydrogel, and saline solution. The selection of the appropriate implant is always made in consultation with the treating physician.

Hospitals in Turkey mostly use implants from the manufacturer Mentor. Due to their texture, these implants allow the body to “grow into” them – thus largely integrating them.

Procedure of the operation

The breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia. As a precaution, you will spend one night in the hospital.

The so-called submammary incision is often chosen as the access point for the implant; this corresponds to an approximately 4-5 cm long incision in the area of ​​the inframammary fold.

The advantage lies in the good visibility during the operation; a disadvantage is the scar, which is visible in certain positions. The situation is similar with the approach along the areola (arc-shaped incision at the lower edge of the nipple) – here, the scar is almost invisible after uncomplicated healing.

Whether the implant is placed above or below the pectoral muscle depends on the patient’s body type and the original shape of the breast.

The implant is usually placed under the pectoral muscle (especially in very thin women with little fat or glandular tissue) or under the mammary gland above the pectoral muscle, leaving the breast tissue itself largely untouched.

In all breast surgeries, care is taken not to damage the sensitive nerves and blood vessels of the nipple in order to preserve sensitivity.

The wound is then sutured, and drains are inserted if necessary to allow blood and tissue fluid to escape. A tight bandage supports the breast after the operation.

After the operation

During the first few days, movements of the upper body and arms will be somewhat difficult. Swelling and bruising are possible. The stitches are self-dissolving.

The scars fade over time and are then barely visible. For the first three months after the operation, a special support bra and a breast band must be worn. This combination ensures very stable positioning of the implants, allowing them to heal quickly.

The entire healing process takes about three months.
