Experience report on my laser treatment with Supracor in Istanbul – report from Wednesday, 19 December 2012
From 22 to 25 October 2012, I was in Istanbul to undergo laser treatment. The fact that I increasingly needed reading glasses and the positive experience of a colleague prompted me to take this step. At the holiday fair in Zurich and online, I noticed the offerings from SwissLasik. After a preliminary examination in Zurich, I decided to fly to Istanbul for the treatment. The travel organization and scheduling were very professional and efficient. The SwissLasik pass was very helpful, both at check-in and in allowing me to consider important aspects of the trip in advance, such as hospital appointments, follow-ups, and sights to see in Istanbul. After a very pleasant flight, I arrived in Istanbul on Monday afternoon and was transferred to the Levent Hotel, which proved to be very clean and well-equipped with the necessary comfort. The next day, I was picked up punctually at the Levent Hotel and was already met at the Acibadem Hospital by my German-speaking coordinator. During the morning, various thorough examinations took place, always accompanied by my translator. After the examinations, I had a consultation with the operating doctor, who recommended the relatively new Supracor method (the eyes are lasered differently for nearsightedness and farsightedness). I had heard of this option beforehand and, when the doctor deemed my eyes suitable, I decided to proceed with this procedure. On the same afternoon (Tuesday), my eyes were lasered, and I was amazed at how quickly the procedure was completed (about 7 minutes for both eyes) and that I felt no pain. After the operation, I was fitted with a protective glasses and given eye drops, with instructions provided both verbally and in writing. I was then transferred back to the hotel for several hours of rest in darkness. In the evening, I was already able to leave the hotel with sunglasses and stretch my legs a little. On Wednesday morning, after breakfast at the hotel, I was picked up for the follow-up check. I felt confident as I had slept well and my visual acuity had already improved. At the Acibadem Eye Clinic, my coordinator welcomed me again, and a thorough post-operative examination revealed no issues. By midday, I was driven back to the hotel, and after a short rest, I took a city walk with some shopping and visited the Blue Sapphire skyscraper, the tallest building in Istanbul. It was remarkable how quickly a significant improvement in vision was noticeable, and this without any pain. On Thursday midday, I was picked up from the Levent Hotel and transferred to the airport for the return journey. I was also impressed that all transfers after arrival at the hotel were very nearly on time, despite Istanbul’s extreme traffic. After a very efficient check-in, I boarded the return flight with the same comfort and friendly flight staff as on the outbound journey. My overall impression is very positive, and I can highly recommend SwissLasik. The Supracor method worked very well for me, and the doctors and hospital staff made a very good impression. The support provided by the translator at the hospital was seamless, even during the procedure.
