Patient Report on Cosmetic Surgery in Istanbul

Due to a botched treatment with Macrolane gel, I used my already planned one-week holiday in Turkey to repair the damage as best as possible. In spring 2012, I underwent a treatment with Macrolane gel with a dermatologist in Switzerland. Each breast was filled with 140 ml of hyaluronic acid gel per side using a syringe. As I was afraid of surgery and the resulting scars in the breast fold, injecting gel made from body-own material with small puncture sites seemed like a good alternative.

At first, everything seemed fine; the difference wasn’t huge, but the increase in breast volume was already very valuable to me, and I was satisfied with the result. I initially wanted to observe how the size and shape of my breasts would change and how I would like it, in order to later decide whether I might eventually undergo a permanent breast surgery or not.

Unfortunately, pockets formed at the injection sites where the Macrolane gel had been introduced into my breasts, leaving unsightly, visible, and palpable dimples. My dermatologist then had to reopen the injection sites to press out the accumulated hyaluronic gel. Sadly, the injection sites never fully closed, and even after several weeks, a considerable amount of the gel continued to leak out.

When a significant amount of gel accumulated on the right side—about the size of a small apple after being pressed out—the size difference became visible, making it necessary to remove the gel from the left side as well. To extract the remaining gel, the dermatologist reopened the injection sites on both sides for a second time and pressed out as much of the material as possible. Due to the unfortunate outcome of the procedure, my doctor at least generously refunded most of the costs, deducting only the material expenses. Apparently, the doctor had treated over three hundred women with Macrolane, and such an unfortunate situation as with my breasts had never occurred before.

Da ich nun bereits viele Unannehmlichkeiten durchlebt hatte und weiterhin keine zufriedenstellende Volumenzunahme erreicht worden war, entschied ich mich schließlich, die Brustvergrößerung mittels Implantaten durchführen zu lassen.

Also begann ich, im Internet zu recherchieren und mich bei Chirurgen in der Region über Möglichkeiten, Ablauf und Kosten zu informieren. Eine Brustvergrößerung in der Schweiz ist sehr teuer, und das Ergebnis einer Operation bei einem Schweizer Arzt ist nicht zwingend besser als bei einem qualifizierten ausländischen Chirurgen.

Nachdem ich mich mit mehreren Freundinnen ausgetauscht hatte, die ihre Brüste sowohl im In- als auch im Ausland operieren ließen, konnte ich mich selbst davon überzeugen, dass die Eingriffe und Ergebnisse im Ausland sehr gut und professionell sind. Da im Ausland verhältnismäßig sogar mehr Schönheitsoperationen durchgeführt werden als in der Schweiz, wuchs mein Vertrauen in die Erfahrung und Routine eines ausländischen Arztes – insbesondere angesichts meines vorher verpfuschten Eingriffs in der Schweiz.

Ich stieß also auf die Website von SwissLasik und nahm zunächst per E-Mail, später auch persönlich Kontakt mit dem Vermittler auf. Alle gewünschten Informationen erhielt ich schnell und mit freundlicher Beratung. Selbstverständlich konnten die genaue Größe und weitere Details erst vor Ort in Istanbul mit dem Arzt besprochen werden. Ich entschied mich für die Operation im Acibadem Istanbul, und ein Termin für die Voruntersuchung beim Schönheitschirurgen wurde vereinbart.

Am Flughafen angekommen wurden meine Begleitung und ich bereits erwartet und direkt mit einem Privatwagen zu unserem Hotel gebracht. Der Fahrer war stets pünktlich und brachte mich am nächsten Morgen zur Voruntersuchung ins Spital.
Aufgrund der speziellen Situation durch den verpfuschten Eingriff mit Macrolane-Gel wollte der Chirurg zuvor eine Ultraschalluntersuchung durchführen, um festzustellen, wo und wie viel des verbliebenen Materials noch in den Brüsten vorhanden war, bevor die gewünschten Silikonimplantate von jeweils 250 ml eingesetzt werden sollten. Ohne diese Informationen über die Verteilung des restlichen Materials und das damit verbundene Infektionsrisiko hätte er die Operation nicht durchgeführt.
Ich stimmte der zusätzlichen Untersuchung selbstverständlich zu, da auch ich das Infektionsrisiko so gering wie möglich halten wollte. Besonders angenehm war zu spüren, dass der Arzt sich wirklich Gedanken um mein Wohlbefinden machte und nicht nur die Operation um jeden Preis durchführen wollte. Er erklärte mir ausdrücklich, dass er die Operation bei zu viel verbleibendem Material aus Sicherheitsgründen ablehnen würde – sowohl zu meinem Schutz als auch zu seinem eigenen.

Der Ultraschall zeigte, dass jeweils kleine Mengen des Macrolane-Gels in beiden Brusttaschen verblieben waren. Auf der linken Seite war außerdem erkennbar, dass eine kleine Menge in den Brustmuskel gespritzt worden war. Dieses Gel im Muskel konnte nicht entfernt werden und verursacht momentan einen kleinen Größenunterschied zwischen den Brüsten. Das verbliebene Material wird sich auf natürliche Weise abbauen, was voraussichtlich etwa zwölf bis achtzehn Monate nach der ursprünglichen Einspritzung dauern wird.

Nach eingehender Beratung mehrerer Ärzte entschied der Chirurg, die Operation durchzuführen. Vor dem Einsetzen der Silikon-Implantate sollte das verbliebene Gel so gut wie möglich entfernt werden. Um das Infektionsrisiko zu minimieren, bestand der Chirurg darauf, dass ich zur Beobachtung mindestens zwei Tage in der Klinik bleiben würde. Ich stimmte zu, und die Operation konnte am nächsten Morgen beginnen.

In the preparation room, the surgeon made the necessary markings and discussed the final details. I was then given the surgical gown and support stockings before being wheeled into the operating theatre. As soon as I was on the operating table, the anaesthetic was administered, and I fell into a deep, peaceful sleep. When I woke up, I could hardly believe that the operation was already over. The doctors confirmed that everything had gone smoothly without complications. When I lifted my head, I immediately noticed the difference and the beautiful result. After a short recovery period, I was taken to a single room on the upper floors. The room at Acibadem Maslak was very comfortably furnished, and over the next two days, I lacked nothing. The nursing staff were always friendly and cared for me attentively. The food was excellent, a mix of traditional Turkish and modern cuisine, and at each meal, two trays were provided so that an accompanying person always had an additional meal available.

After the second night, the drains could finally be removed. The pain was manageable, and an uncomfortable pressure was mostly felt in the mornings and late evenings, but just a few days later, I was able to manage without or with only minimal pain medication. The breasts were naturally still swollen for a few days, and the skin was very tight. It takes, depending on the individual, between two to four months for the breast skin to soften and for the breasts to take on their final shape.

However, even shortly after the surgery and already after these two days, it was visible that the breasts had achieved a beautifully full shape. The result is very nice and symmetrical. I was and still am very satisfied with my new body shape. Happy and above all healthy, I was able to leave the hospital to enjoy a few more days in Istanbul. A few days later, the final check-up with the surgeon took place before I flew home after a ten-day stay. I experienced no pain on the plane, and the following days and weeks passed without complications. The operation is now over two months ago. The scars are naturally still slightly red, but healing is progressing well. The support bra I received at the clinic fits perfectly, and I wear it every day, including at night and during sports. All in all, I can only share positive feedback about my cosmetic surgery in Turkey and can confidently recommend it to others who are interested.
