Trip to Istanbul from 28–31 March 2012, surgery on 29 March – report from Wednesday, 16 May 2012

We traveled to Istanbul as a group of four to have our eyes lasered. The four of us had wanted to do this for a long time, and I had already attended an information evening in Zurich. It was very good, but I was still unsure about traveling to Turkey for it. Then a friend gave me the contact of a clinic in Germany. All four of us had a preliminary examination there and received confirmation that we could have our eyes lasered. We then scheduled an appointment and received a cost estimate by mail. Starting from €3,100 and higher depending on diopters. There was advertising for €790 per eye, which made us somewhat uncertain. After several calls and inquiries about the high price, we also requested an offer from Swisslasik. Everything went so smoothly and perfectly – 6 March offer, flight 28 March, surgery 29 March – that all four of us booked with Swisslasik.
The reaction from many friends was always the same: You’re brave, how can you do this in Turkey, etc. I had thoroughly informed myself beforehand and was always confident that I had made the right decision. And that was indeed the case: we were picked up from the airport and taken to the hotel. Afterwards, we visited the bazaar and went sightseeing. The next day, we were picked up punctually from the hotel and taken to the ACIBADEM clinic. Another person from Switzerland, who was also having eye laser surgery, joined us, so there were five of us, and we had to undergo all the examinations again. The interpreter was always present, even during conversations with the doctor. I always felt well looked after.
We had lunch in the cafeteria, and after being informed, the surgery started at 14:00. I was very nervous. The interpreter was again present during the surgery and guided me on what to do. Brilliant – I never felt alone and could ask questions whenever something was unclear. For all five of us, the surgery was successful. After the examinations, we were taken back to the hotel with eye drops and protective glasses. We rested for four hours – everyone slept – the eyes were slightly itchy, but none of us had pain. After these four hours, my vision was already quite sharp. Some went out for dinner, while the others slept through the night.
The next day, we were picked up for the follow-up check and taken back to the clinic. All examinations were again done with the interpreter, and everyone received positive confirmation. The surgery was successful for all. Even after the first check in Zurich, I am totally thrilled and can highly recommend Swisslasik. We booked everything at short notice and at a very good price for all these services. The service, the information, the support, the surgery, the hotel – everything went exactly as promised. I am very glad that I chose Swisslasik. All four of us now see 100% again and are completely happy. I got to know Istanbul as a very beautiful and interesting city.
