My complete dental restoration in Istanbul, simply perfect! – Report from Tuesday, 7 February 2017
Just before my departure, my friends said their goodbyes with worried faces and all the best wishes, as if I were heading straight for my doom 🙂. A clear case of misinformation due to the unfortunately very negative media coverage in our so-called “free” world, along with many prejudices at play. However, anyone looking for an affordable yet high-quality solution for dental treatment will find a truly good and safe option here.
I have been to Istanbul twice. This city is beautiful and very interesting. The friendliness of the Turks is truly remarkable, and it seems that tourists really find what they are looking for there. I had the pleasure of experiencing this during both visits. The first time in summer and the second time in winter. To my surprise, I saw a lot of snow in Istanbul. In the Swiss lowlands, there hasn’t been this much snow in years. For the hotel, I chose the most affordable option because I like things simple. Nevertheless, the hotel was perfectly fine, and the people were very polite.
Regarding my treatment: For years, one tooth after another was falling apart, and I spent several thousand francs each year just to be able to chew. My dentist recommended a removable partial denture, but only for basic functionality, which would have cost me several thousand francs. In a few years, however, I would have ended up with a full denture. A ‘drawer,’ as they say here, would have already cost me tens of thousands of francs. So, I decided to research online and came across MedicalTravel.
In principle, I knew that Turkey has very well-trained doctors who meet our standards. Although there may be even cheaper offers in the Third World, the work of Turkish doctors seemed much more trustworthy to me. I attended an information session, where I was very well informed by MedicalTravel and the attending Turkish dentist, Dr. Ö. Öztürk. They convinced me of a comprehensive solution with implants, and I am very glad about that today. This meant that all my remaining teeth should be removed, and a new set of teeth would be built on the basis of 16 implants, so that it would eventually feel like my own teeth. In Switzerland, I would have had to pay a fortune for this; in Turkey, it cost about 70% less.
This treatment is carried out in two steps. The first step is the removal of the existing teeth under general anesthesia. I didn’t feel anything; you could really call it painless, and the two-day stay in the hospital was very comfortable. Of course, it’s a bit of an adjustment at first to be without teeth in your mouth, but it’s something you have to get through. Afterward, I received a temporary full denture, as the implants need to heal completely for 6 months. The temporary denture already looked very good, but at first, it was quite difficult for me to manage with it, although people are different in this regard.
After a few weeks, I got used to it and was able to eat almost everything. Additionally, you know that this state is only temporary. I never had any major issues with inflammation or pain. The more I looked forward to the final solution, the more I was glad I had chosen this option.
In the second step, the implants are uncovered, and the crowns are placed on them. This is a bit more involved. Everything is adjusted with great precision, which ultimately brings real benefits for me as a patient. Just like during the first visit, I was constantly informed about every step, and the translator did a really great job. Even with Dr. Öztürk, you can feel that you’re in capable hands.
Now, I have all my teeth back for a week, and I’m enjoying it. It’s simply perfect. I can recommend it to everyone. It would have been even better if I had had my teeth done a few years ago.
