My review of a dental clinic in Istanbul, Türkiye
We first visited Istanbul in 2010 to have laser eye surgery. I found MedicalTravel online at that time and had the opportunity to meet the managing director in Zurich.
Four years ago, my mother kept having dental issues. MedicalTravel arranged an appointment for us with a dentist in Zurich, where we were able to have a 3D X-ray taken and meet the dentist who would later treat us in Istanbul.
During my annual dental check-up in 2023, it was discovered that an old, large filling needed to be replaced (preferably with a ceramic filling), and I also needed a crown. Therefore, I decided to travel to Istanbul again.
A crown costs only about 1/5 of the price in Switzerland in Turkey, and you still get top-quality treatment. My mother also needed to have 3 or 4 teeth repaired, so she visited the referral clinic in Zurich, and just two weeks later, we were able to travel to Turkey.
MedicalTravel contacted us again beforehand regarding the flight and hotel. However, since it wasn’t my first trip to Istanbul, I booked everything myself. If desired, MedicalTravel handles everything for the customer, and it’s definitely recommended if you don’t want to book anything yourself (less stress) or if you’re not familiar with the city.
On 30th August 2023, we flew 3 hours from Zurich to Istanbul and, as always, were picked up at the airport. The next afternoon, the driver picked us up from the hotel and took us to the dental practice.
By the way, we stayed in Istanbul for a total of 4 nights. The dentist is very flexible with appointments, and you can even get one on a Sunday. In 2019, we were there for a week, and she spontaneously moved an appointment for us so we could enjoy the beautiful weather on Saturday.
The dental clinic looks like one in Switzerland and is located in a very modern building – we were already familiar with it from our last visit in 2019. The dentist came to us within a few minutes, and everything that would be done was discussed again.
The treatment was quick and quite pleasant. The cavities were temporarily filled (thankfully, you can still eat with them), and two days later, our ceramic teeth were ready to be fitted.
Once the fillings were in, another X-ray was taken. The dentist always does this in Turkey after the treatment to check if everything fits and there are no material remnants between the teeth – it doesn’t cost anything extra. She always says, “In Turkey, we are a bit more relaxed.”
Everything in the clinic was also well disinfected, etc. The staff is very friendly, and you always receive a free bottle of water. Communication is possible in English, and the doctor speaks German as well.
We stayed in Istanbul for a total of 5 days. Despite having two dental appointments, we still had plenty of free time and were able to explore the city. It’s definitely worth staying an extra day or two, or even more.
There are many sightseeing opportunities and shopping options. Food is available on every corner, and the prices are affordable. We had dinner for no more than 20 CHF in a restaurant on the city’s most famous street. People are generally very open and welcoming.
If I need any surgery, new teeth, or anything else in the future, I will definitely turn to MedicalTravel again. I was always satisfied with the service, and even after the treatment, I was always helped with any questions – keep up the great work!
My mother was very skeptical in 2010: “What? You want to go to Turkey?!” And now, in 2023, she was in Istanbul for the fifth time, so it doesn’t seem to be that bad after all.
