Report from Istanbul Laser eye surgery – Report from Monday, July 9, 2007
First of all, I have to say that I am extremely satisfied with my LASIK surgery in Istanbul. It has now been 11 days since the operation and everything is almost completely fine.
When I landed in Istanbul, I had barely stepped off the plane when my phone rang and Arif was on the line. He was the one picking me up.
He speaks German, so no problem.
Arif was super friendly and took me straight to the hotel. On the way to the hotel, he also gave me lots of tips for Istanbul.
The surgery was scheduled for the next day. Fred picked me up; he speaks Bernese German, even though the clinic was only 50 meters away. I was greeted very warmly at the clinic and everything was explained to me, in Bernese German of course! The preliminary examination was no problem either, and I was able to slowly prepare for the surgery. First, however, I was asked to go and eat something, as I would certainly not be able to walk after the operation. The operation was scheduled for around 5:30 p.m.
I was already a little nervous when I was called into the operating room. First, I was able to relax for a few minutes in a massage chair before I had to lie down on the operating table. Fred was there too.
He told me everything that was going to happen and what was going to be done, which was great, and I just let it happen. To my surprise, I didn’t notice much, certainly not any pain. The only unpleasant thing was when the incision was made in my eyes.
Then I was able to get up and go to an adjoining room, where it was very dark and I was able to relax for about fifteen minutes while listening to
some good music. Then it was back to the normal area of the clinic.
To my surprise, I could see quite well, and I wasn’t as blinded by the light as I thought I would be.
After about an hour, my eyes were examined again, and of course Fred was there too! Everything was fine, great!
Now I could go back to the hotel, wearing sunglasses, of course, because it’s already very bright outside.
The next day, I went to explore Istanbul. It was amazing how well I could already see.
Somewhat unfortunate: I was rather brazenly cheated and ripped off by a taxi driver. Well, apparently this happens quite often.
In the afternoon, I had to go back to the clinic for a follow-up examination. Once again, everyone was extremely friendly. Fred was there, and so was Arif.
Everything is great, 100% vision. Before, I had -2.00 in both eyes.
Now for something more positive: when I told Arif about the taxi driver, he immediately agreed to take me on a tour of the city. It was great with him. I didn’t get back to the hotel until after midnight. I experienced a lot with Arif.
The next day, Arif picked me up at the hotel and took me to the airport. The trip to Istanbul was over.
So I can only recommend laser eye surgery to anyone who is considering it. Don’t be afraid of Istanbul and Turkey. The care provided by Swisslasik.ch is also very good. So there is no reason to pay much more in Switzerland.
Many thanks to the team in Istanbul and to Swisslasik.ch.
